There are many compositions which lift the spirit, and can colour the liturgy of the church at particular moments.
Durufle’s version of ‘Ubi Caritas’ is one such piece. The words ‘Where there is charity and love, God is there.’ are combined with a tune dating from the eight century in an antiphon/anthem that has traditionally been used on Maundy Thursday to accompany the liturgical washing of feet.
