Soissons Fugue - Durufle

The ‘Fugue sur le thème du Carillon des Heures de la Cathédrale de Soissons’, to give it it’s full name, was composed in 1962, and dedicated to the organist at Soissons cathedral, Canon Henri Doyen.

The work is based on a 8 note theme from the same cathedrals’ carillon, and is a gradual crescendo, building on the theme, and ending in two mighty A minor chords.

It is a major piece in 20th century french organ repertoire, played here by Daniel Roth.
