‘No Surprises’ - Yorke

The lyrics of this classic Radiohead hit come with a ‘subject beware’ header, dealing as they do with depression and the futility of day to day life. However, it has to be equally said that Thom Yorke in his writing shows observational empathy with a great many people who suffer these debilitating feelings which are only too real for them.

The accoustic performance in the Paris ‘Le Reservoir’ venue by Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood has something authentic about it - the silence of the audience during the song itself shows, I think, respect for both the subject matter and the performance of two highly gifted musicians.
